The Texas Legends, an NBA Development League team, will kick off their second season in Frisco at the Dr Pepper Arena on November 26. Donnie Nelson, Dallas Mavericks President of Basketball Operations and General Manager is the principal owner and operator of the team. They have tapped Del Harris-the most decorated coach in NBA D-League history-as their new head coach and former NBA superstar Anthony "Spud" Webb as president of basketball operations.

The Dr Pepper Arena is also the home of the Texas Tornado hockey team of the North American Hockey League (NAHL). The Tornado returned to the ice for the 2009-2010 season, celebrating its 10th year. The Texas Tornado is a Junior 'A' level ice hockey team, which is a typical, transitional step in a hockey players development towards NCAA Division I college programs and the National Hockey League.
