(Frisco, Texas) December 15, 2011 ~ Thousands of amateur athletes and spectators are expected to compete in a dozen different sports over the MLK holiday weekend January 13-15, 2012 in Frisco during the Winter Games of Texas. They'll spike it, dunk it, run it, kick it and more in the largest multi-sport event held in North Texas. Follow us on Facebook for results and event photos.
The sports lineup includes basketball, Miracle League Bowling, fencing, figure skating, flag football, gymnastics, ice hockey, martial arts, soccer, swimming, volleyball and table tennis. The Winter Games of Texas was created as a companion to the Summer Games of Texas by the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation, the Frisco Convention & Visitors Bureau, and Frisco Parks and Recreation Department. TAAF Executive Director, Mark Lord, remembers everything from the beginning. He says, "Frisco is like a Mecca when it comes to sports facilities in Texas. They have some of the best in the state and we look forward to working with the facilities, their staff and local sports organizations every year."
The Winter Games of Texas provides encouragement, overall talent and skill development and is a stepping stone for athletes to take their game to the next level. The games are a great way for the athletes to build positive rivalries, new friendships, improved playing skills, self-confidence, enjoyment of participation, sportsmanship, group interaction, discipline, leadership, and teamwork. Those who medal in basketball, figure skating, gymnastics, soccer, swimming, and table tennis at the Winter Games of Texas will take their competitive journey to an automatic berth in the 2013 State Games of America held in Hershey-Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
Winter Games of Texas Event Manager, Chaney Muench, says, "The passion created from participating in sports is something that can last a lifetime. It's great to see that passion and excitement in the eyes of each of the athletes who participate no matter what their age. I love this event and the positive impact it has had on our city for the past 6 years!" To find out which sports are still open for registration or to volunteer, visit the website www.taaf.com or call 1-877-GoFrisco (463-7472) for more information.
