FRISCO, TEXAS - The Frisco RoughRiders announced Thursday that Dr Pepper Ballpark will host the RoughRiders' Lonestar Fan Fest presented by KHYI 95.3 The Range. The concert will feature Texas music legend Jerry Jeff Walker and The Django Walker Band benefiting the Frisco RoughRiders Foundation. "We wanted to establish an annual season ending event that all can enjoy," said Scott Sonju, President of the Frisco RoughRiders. "It is an honor to have Jerry Jeff Walker, a true Texas legend, headline our first annual Frisco RoughRiders Fan Fest event. Additionally, for his son Django Walker to open the show should make for a special night at Dr Pepper Ballpark."
Walker will perform all of his hits in a rare outdoor performance. The legendary Walker has recorded more than 30 albums, entertained five presidents and inspired musicians such as Garth Brooks, Brooks and Dunn and Pat Green. Almost 25 years ago, he introduced a young singer-songwriter named Jimmy Buffet to Key West and the pleasures of the island life. In 2007, Brooks and Dunn honored Walker with their release of "The Ballad of Jerry Jeff Walker." Walker, who is a huge baseball fan, wrote the song "Nolan Ryan" as a tribute for the legendary Texan. Perhaps Walker's greatest songwriting accomplishment came while in a New Orleans jail on the 4th of July almost 30 years ago when he penned the American pop standard "Mr. Bojangles."
Django Walker will open the show at 7:00 pm. Django has written and recorded such hits as "The Road You Choose" and "Texas On My Mind." Pat Green re-recorded "Texas On My Mind" which reached #1 on the Texas Music Charts.
Tickets will go on sale to the public on Friday, August 27th, 2010 through the Dr Pepper Ballpark Ticket Office or, starting on September 8th by calling Ticketmaster at 800-745-9277 or visiting www.ticketmaster.com. Ticket prices are $19.50 for reserved seats and $29.50 for reserved seats that include access to the field.
