When visiting Frisco, The Depot Café is a must-stop eatery and a place to experience a piece of living history. Whether you’re stopping by for a classic breakfast, a hometown lunch, or a Friday night meal with locals, you’ll experience a warm, casual space rooted in family tradition and community pride.

Nestled in the heart of historic downtown Frisco, now known as The Rail District™, the current location of The Depot Café carries a rich legacy. The journey began in 1959 when Henry Francis opened Henry’s Supermarket on this very site, establishing a cornerstone for the local community. As one of the earliest family-owned businesses on Frisco’s Main Street, The Depot Café stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of family entrepreneurship and the area’s deep-rooted history.

In the late 1980’s, as shopping habits changed, the grocery store evolved into a convenience store with a small deli. Customers frequently requested additional seating and more substantial meal options.

Dennis and Debbie Francis, Henry’s son and daughter-in-law, eventually transformed the business into a full-service restaurant. In 1999, they opened The Depot Cafe, choosing a name that honors the historic Frisco train depot that once stood in the area. Drawing on Frisco’s history as a railroad town, so named after the St. Louis - San Francisco Railway, the cafe features decor that evokes classic train depots, offering guests a nostalgic experience.

A well-known community gathering spot, over the years it has hosted countless locals and travelers. In 2014, the Francis family’s business was recognized as one of the oldest continuously operating family-owned establishments in Frisco, and the city honored them with a special reception.

The Depot Cafe’s reputation has flourished, thanks not only to its delicious food but also to its warm, friendly service and commitment to preserving Frisco’s unique history. Locals frequently visit for a hearty breakfast, bring family and friends for lunch, or relax during casual Friday night dinners. Today, the Depot Cafe stands as a proud emblem of the town’s rich heritage, providing guests with a memorable experience that seamlessly blends historical charm with genuine hospitality.

Once inside The Depot Café, you will find a warm, traditional atmosphere, focused less on modern trends and more on comfort food and community.

The cafe features vintage photographs of Frisco and signage reminiscent of the golden era of rail travel. Its design is intended to replicate the atmosphere of a traditional train station, incorporating wooden benches and brass fixtures. The walls are decorated with authentic train memorabilia and historic images of Frisco, showcasing the city's railroad heritage and contributing to the establishment's distinctive nostalgic appeal.

On the menu, expect classic American-style, hearty dishes, very much in the “home-cooked” spirit. Favorites among locals include the country-style biscuits and gravy, fluffy pancakes, and the famous chicken-fried steak sandwich. Lunch favorites include fried catfish, burgers, mashed potatoes, and pot roast (often a daily special).

The cafe prides itself on using fresh, locally sourced ingredients whenever possible.

Friday night dinner is a local tradition, including desserts like banana pudding and bread pudding that regulars rave about. There are also vegan options, along with kids and seniors menus.

The vibe is casual, friendly, and unpretentious, exactly what you’d expect from a long-standing community cafe. Service at The Depot Cafe is friendly and attentive, and the staff is known for welcoming newcomers and making everyone feel at home.
