Honoring Our Heroes: A Guide to the Frisco Veterans Memorial
The Frisco Veterans Memorial (FVM) stands as a profound tribute to the men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces. For visitors looking to pay their respects or reflect on the cost of freedom, the memorial at Frisco Commons Park offers a deeply personal and educational experience.
Here is what you need to know about this "sacred soil" in one of the largest parks in Frisco.
A Heritage of Honor
The memorial’s roots date back to 1948, originally established by the Frisco Garden Club. A centerpiece of that original site, a polished granite urn dedicated to World War I and II veterans, was moved to the current location in 2004. The urn is one of many things to see at the memorial, and it’s encouraged to take in the entirety of the site. It serves as both a place of mourning and a source of inspiration.
Memorial Highlights
The FVM has undergone five major enhancements since 2004, evolving into a multi-sensory walk-through military history. Key features include:
The Walk of Honor: Added in 2014, this is the path that recognizes our service members by featuring bricks with their name on them.
The "Flyboy" Statue: Dedicated on December 7, 2016 (the 75th anniversary of Pearl Harbor), this 7-foot tall bronze statue represents an Army Air Corps navigator.
Battlefield Cross & Updated Plaques: The 2021 Memorial Day upgrade included more than 25 improvements, featuring new and updated informational plaques and a "Battlefield Cross" centerpiece.
Gold Star Family Memorial Monument: Established as a sanctuary for reflection, this tribute recognizes the families of the fallen, honoring both the lasting legacy of our service members and the profound sacrifice of those they left behind.
Purple Heart Monument: Unveiled on September 20, 2025, this monument is dedicated to U.S. military personnel who were wounded or killed in action.
The Audio Tour
One exciting part of the five enhancements was the 30-minute, four-part audio tour. The audio tour helps visitors truly understand the meaning behind the monuments. This engaging tour narrates the history of the memorial, explains the significance of each element, and shares personal stories from local veterans.
Visitors can access the audio tour directly on your smartphone by visiting this link.
Community Support and a Place of Reflection
What makes this site truly special is that it isn’t just a monument; it is a living history of community coordination. For decades, local veterans, families, and civic organizations have worked tirelessly to maintain and improve the grounds. This collective effort ensures that the sacrifice of everyday citizens who voluntarily serve their country is never forgotten.
Visitors will find a space that reflects deep community sentiment—a quiet, respectful environment designed to acknowledge the contributions of our armed forces. Whether it is through the tears of sorrow or the tears of pride, the Frisco Veterans Memorial ensures that these heroic actions are never forgotten.

The Path Forward
