Frisco is packed with things to do, especially outdoor activities. With an average of close to 300 sunny days per year, it makes sense to take advantage of the beautiful weather by indulging in something enjoyable outside.

We may be biased, but we think golf is the perfect sport to take you outdoors in Frisco. Of course, you should definitely enjoy everything the city has to offer, but if you’re looking for something to really get into that you can play year-round, never get bored of, and reap a ton of other benefits from, it’s golf.

Whether you’re an experienced golfer or you’ve never played before, here’s why we think you should consider adding golf to your list of regular outdoor activities.

Versatile Choice of Sport

One of the best things about golf is how versatile it is. It truly suits every kind of person and every kind of lifestyle. Here’s what makes it one of the most accommodating sports you can find.

Suits Every Player

Firstly, golf is a great sport for both complete beginners and more advanced players. If you’re absolutely new to the game, you can spend some time working on your game on the driving range, putting green, and chipping area.

On the other hand, if you’re already an accomplished golfer, you can have your pick of playing a full round on a course nearby or spending a more relaxed few hours hitting balls on the range instead.

Secondly, golf is super versatile when it comes to how many people can play together. If you’re keen to escape for a bit and spend some time alone, you can definitely do that. If you’re looking for a fun day out as a couple, golf is perfect as well.

And if you’re planning on getting away as a group (with the whole family or with a bunch of friends), the golf course is just as good a place to be.

Suits Every Time Frame

Whether you’ve got a full day to spend as you wish or you have an hour or two to kill before an appointment, you can hang out on the golf course. Spend a whole morning out on the course and enjoy a meal afterward, or work on your short game for an hour or so in the practice area while you wait for time to pass.

Most courses also open fairly early. If you’re a member, you may be able to book a tee time for a bit later in the evening if your working hours are restrictive.

Good Physical Activity

Golf is a great way to get some exercise, both muscular and cardiovascular. If you have the time to walk the course, we highly recommend it because it’ll get you approximately 10,000 steps in, and it’ll give you a light, but effective, cardio workout.

Plus, the golf swing engages a number of different muscles, giving them a stretch and a workout without being high impact. And then there’s the fact that you’re breathing in fresh air and getting a good dose of vitamin D, which helps to boost the effects of the exercise.

Helps to Clear Your Head

There’s something special about being out on the golf course when you need some time to think and reframe your mind. It’s a chance to be away from the hustle and bustle of fast-paced, competitive team sports, and it’s also lovely and tranquil, providing a space for you to relax, focus on something else, and ease up on overwhelming thoughts.

Plus, the combination of getting the blood pumping, getting endorphins flowing, and being around beautiful nature has a cumulative calming effect.

Great Golf Courses to Choose From

Frisco has a collection of golf courses worth playing, for a range of skill levels.

Fields Ranch

With two golf 18-hole championship golf courses to choose from—Fields Ranch East and Fields Ranch West—and dynamic tees, you can play here multiple times and never get bored. Plus, the on-site Monument Realty PGA District offers a 10-hole par-3 course, The Swing, and a 2-acre natural grass putting ground, The Dance Floor.

Both Fields Ranch courses strike a fine balance between playability and challenge. Note that if you’re a visitor, you’ll need to book your tee time a week in advance to avoid disappointment.

Fazio Course

Guests of The Westin Stonebriar Golf Resort & Spa can play the renowned Fazio Course at Stonebriar Country Club. It's recently renovated greens and bunkers, plus the new irrigation technology make it attractive for all kinds of golfers. You can look forward to the beautiful 18th hole, a dogleg right par 5 that sets up nicely for a birdie finish.

Frisco Lakes Golf Club

Frisco Lakes’ 18-hole championship course is diverse and exciting and has five sets of tees so every golfer can have a chance at a great round. It starts off with two relatively tame par-4s. But don’t let that fool you—thereafter, it launches into two of the toughest holes on the course, so come prepared with your best short game and a precise iron shot. A hybrid club could be beneficial here.

Trails of Frisco Golf Club

This semi-private club houses a 6,800-yard, par-71 championship course with a wetlands layout. The Trails of Frisco is a challenging experience for all golfers, but not unfair. However, with smart bunkering and sizable greens, you should come prepared for a tricky game.

Plantation Golf Club

This public golf course features a championship course that melds effortlessly with the natural surroundings. You’ll encounter local flora and fauna as you play Plantation Golf Club, as well as navigating ponds and sand traps. It’s a beautiful course that’s well worth a play.

Take Your Game Indoors

If you happen to be craving a round of golf when the weather isn't on your side, you’ll be pleased to know that Frisco has some great indoor golf spots too. While you’ll be missing out on the warm sunshine, fresh air, and nature, you can still have an enjoyable experience that mixes the best of both sports and socializing at the Topgolf Swing Suite at The Westin Stonebriar Golf Resort & Spa and the live hitting bays on the covered patio at PGA Frisco's Ice House.

Plan Your Golf Outing

Now that you see the beauty of golf and all the ways to enjoy it Frisco, plan your trip to experience it for yourself. From luxurious to locally inspired, there are plenty of hotel options for all group sizes and preferences, plus great spots for the best food and drinks in between those rounds of golf.
