Soccer City: Frisco’s Homegrown Hub for the Beautiful Game

Half a mile down Main Street from Toyota Stadium is Soccer City, a locally-owned store specializing in soccer gear for players from youth to pro. We browsed the store with owner Jamey Stiglets and his son, Austin, to see what’s kicking at Soccer City Frisco. 

How long have you been the owner of Soccer City? 

We bought Soccer City roughly 10 years ago from the original owner. Retail has been my background since I got out of college or before, so this was a good fit. I spent many years working with JCPenney as a buyer out of New York.

Do you have a soccer background? 

Well, the kids have all played, and I've been involved in athletics since I was three or four years old. So, I've been involved in sports and athletics all the way through college, with the kids and all with the background of retail.

If someone hasn't been to Soccer City before, what can they expect? 

We pride ourselves on customer service, and we consider ourselves a soccer specialty store and boutique. So if they walk into the store, we help them through the whole process. Also, you never know who's in here. We handle a lot of pros from all around the world. From pros locally, all the way from college down to the MLS Academy, through the rec (recreational), they come in here. 

Who is your customer? 

Moms who are starting out with three, four, five, six, seven, eight-year-olds playing soccer. Parents of players in rec leagues like FSA (Frisco Soccer Association), McKinney Soccer, Prosper, The Colony, and Celina can find what they need here. 

For those moms and dads of those little soccer players, what's at Soccer City for them? Everything soccer. From cleats, socks, and shin guards to shorts, balls, and more.

Does Soccer City do team jerseys? 

We do recreation league uniforms, mostly U6 and above. We do other sports, too, and everything at Fieldhouse USA - volleyball, basketball, and indoor soccer. We also do a lot of hockey, competitive team uniforms, and numbering on jerseys. 

Do you have special events surrounding big soccer tournaments?  

During the last World Cup, we partnered with the Frisco Rail Yard and Panini for a sticker party. We had seven or eight players that played in a World Cup that were here trading stickers with kids. There's nowhere else you can interact with these athletes like this. A lot of soccer players are from this area, and they seem to migrate back here. 

What is an example of a unique product Soccer City has that people aren't going to find at a big box store?  

We're all things soccer, and we do education. That's the difference. We have all the high-end stuff, shoes that only two places in the country have. Cleats that are all kangaroo leather, made in Japan, and of very high-end workmanship. You're not going to find these anywhere else. We have Cleat Pro shoe inserts that all the pros wear that give support for when players are running 6-10 miles a game. We fit them for customers. We put you on the board, measure, and make sure they are the right fit. We have 200+ soccer shoes.  We have FC Dallas products for fans, but a lot of what we have is catered to the parents and to the kids that play.
