Travel supports 15 million jobs in America. It generates $2.9 trillion in economic output. It connects communities and families and strengthens every sector of the economy, from restaurants and retail to tech.

It's National Travel and Tourism Week, which means we are saying hats off to an industry that fuels opportunity and connects us all.

Frisco Earning Chops as a Travel Destination

In April 2025, the City of Frisco was designated as a Tourism Friendly Texas Certified Community by Travel Texas. The Tourism Friendly Texas Certified Community designation shows Visit Frisco’s commitment to further develop tourism as an economic growth strategy, boost local job creation, and draw more visitors from across the nation and around the world.

“Frisco has earned its place on the map as both a sports powerhouse and a family-friendly destination on the rise,” said Travel Texas Director Tim Fennell. “From game-day excitement at The Star and Toyota Stadium to hands-on experiences at KidZania and the National Videogame Museum, Frisco delights visitors with its mix of big-league action and engaging attractions for all ages.

Does this North Texas town have the numbers to support the accolades? Frisco outperforms larger neighboring cities in hotel tax collections, highlighting its strength as a premiere destination. Despite being smaller in population and geographic size, Frisco collected more in hotel occupancy tax revenue than larger nearby cities like Plano during the same period (Mar 2024 – Feb 2025).

Visitors are staying longer in Frisco, a sign of growing destination appeal. As of early 2025, the average length of stay for visitors in Frisco has risen to 2.7 days, an increase from previous years where the average consistently hovered around 2.4-2.5 days. This upward trend signals that Frisco is a place where travelers choose to spend more time, explore more attractions, and contribute more to the local economy.

Frisco’s hotel sector is experiencing remarkable growth. Looking at the timeframe of March 2024 to March 2025, Frisco’s hotel revenue increased by 22.7% compared to the previous year, totaling over $203 million. This was driven by significant jumps in demand, occupancy, and average daily rate. The growth in both supply and demand, with 1.8 million rooms available and 1.2 million booked, demonstrates a healthy, expanding tourism economy where travelers are coming, staying longer, and willing to spend more per stay.

Job Strength & Tax Relief on the National Stage

One in every 11 U.S. jobs depends on travel, making it a critical driver of America’s economy and a force for connection and opportunity. Travel is an essential industry contributing to economic growth and connectedness among communities.

"Travel is one of our nation's most powerful economic engines—supporting millions of jobs, fueling businesses and propelling industries forward,” said U.S. Travel Association President and CEO Geoff Freeman. “National Travel and Tourism Week reinforces the pivotal role travel plays in building a stronger, more prosperous America."

Travel-generated tax revenue reached $190 billion in the U.S. in 2024, each household would pay $1,490 more in taxes without the tax revenue generated by travel. In Frisco, that figures surpasses the national average, with $2,400 in tax relief per household.

According to the U.S. Travel Association, travel and tourism fuels growth across nearly every sector — from manufacturing and health care to education and agriculture. Here are more key points on the impact of travel for the U.S.

  • Travel is a $2.9 trillion economic engine that supports growth in every state. Accounting for 2.5% of U.S. GDP, travel also supports small businesses and entrepreneurship nationwide.
  • Travel sustains vibrant, resilient communities. In towns and cities alike, travel spending generates local revenue, revitalizes main streets and funds essential services like public safety, education and infrastructure.
  • Travel supports 15 million American jobs and pathways to advancement. From first jobs to executive careers, travel offers meaningful employment opportunities in every community and across diverse skill sets.
  • Travel strengthens America’s position on the global stage. As one of our top service exports, travel plays a critical role in driving trade and U.S. global competitiveness.
  • Travel is a catalyst for connection and opportunity. It brings people together — families, businesses, communities — laying the foundation for collaboration, lasting relationships and shared progress.
  • As the most desired destination for global travelers, America welcomes visitors from around the world to explore its diverse offerings and vibrant destinations — benefiting both our visitors and our economy.
