Bringing Hometown Spirit Full Circle
To make this Texas Tailgaters stop in Frisco even more meaningful is the unique coaching connection. Joe Mikulik is the manager of the Texas Tailgaters. If the name sounds familiar it’s because he was the manager of the Frisco RoughRiders, too! He is a former minor league baseball player, coach, and manager. Mikulik became the outfield coordinator in the Texas Rangers’ organization in 2013 season and coached the Double-A Frisco Roughriders from 2014 through 2019.
Five Texas Tailgaters players are from Texas, including Jordan Hussein (Houston), Marcos Castillo (Round Rock), Jimmy Lewis (Austin), Tre Jones (Houston), and Rodrigo Sanchez (McAllen). So, get extra loud when these players take the field!
Tickets & Fan Tips
With the popularity in this viral version of baseball, there are more fans than there are seats, so tickets are limited. Fans can enter in a ticket lottery online and are notified if they get the chance to purchase tickets. For Frisco, Texas games in September of 2025, the lottery entry window took place in November 2024, and the lucky fans were notified in July if they won the chance to buy tickets. Banana Ball tickets are priced at $35, an intentional way for the league owners to keep the experience affordable.
Arrive early for the “Greatest Pregame in Sports” because the show starts 2 hours before game time.
What to Expect on Game Day
Expect trick plays, dancing, music, and entertainment all with the backdrop of America’s favorite pastime, baseball.
Don’t sleep on the third inning. Get ready for the 3-2-2, which stands for 3rd inning, second batter, second pitch. These are Banana Ball in-game pre-pitch dances that have their own social media following with over 300 million views on TikTok.
⚾Get Right on the Rules
There are a few of the famous Banana Ball rules you may want to know, designed to eliminate the boring stuff and highlight the fun stuff - simple as that.
- First off, every inning is worth a point, except for the last inning where every run counts.
- It’s timed. There’s a 2-hour time limit. No new innings start after that.
- Rules that address some of the not-so-action packed parts of the game address bunting, walks, and mound visits. Not only is bunting not allowed, the hitter is ejected from the game.
- No walks allowed either. If the pitcher throws a ball four, the hitter gets to run the bases until every defensive player touches the ball.
- Challenges to a play still exist, but, of course, with limits and fun twists like the fans to have the opportunity to challenge one play a game by shooting off confetti.
- Steal first? Why not?
- Allow an out to count if a fan catches a foul ball? Why not?
- There’s a golden batter rule where once a game a team can send their best hitter up to bat in any lineup spot.
- The tie breaker situation in Banana Ball is a doozy. The Showdown Tiebreaker has a round with the pitcher, catcher, one fielder and the batter and the batter must score to get a point. Rounds continue with a variety of field players and base runners allowed. A homerun ends it all - walk-off style!
